Termite mound and WildebeastNo tree will live very long with damaged bark. When the Baobab tree eventually dies the stump is attacked by termites. Such a large tree yields a huge termite mound - for comparison, the Wildebeest in the picture at right are about the size of a cow. But there are many smaller trees and smaller mounds as well. The termites eventually move on and other animals use the mound. Warthogs like to dig into the soft soil to make a hiding place for the night. Jackals or foxes might use the warthog's abandoned hole (or dig their own) to hide their young. CONTINUED
